Rob Reiner wins posthumous Emmy for role in 'The Bear'
Late director Rob Reiner won a posthumous Emmy for his performance in "The Bear," nine months after his tragic death.
Reiner's award for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series category was announced Sunday evening at a 2026 Emmy Awards ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
The Emmy is the third for Reiner, who received a lengthy standing ovation for his win. The award was accepted on his behalf by the category's presenters, Wendi McLendon-Covey and David Alan Grier, according to People.
Reiner appeared in several episodes of season 4 of the fast-paced highly acclaimed kitchen drama "The Bear" as Albert Schnur, an advisor brought in to mentor Ebraheim, who successfully runs The Beef, the sandwich window at the back of The Bear restaurant.
Other nominees in the outstanding guest actor category included Michael J. Fox and Brett Goldstein for their roles in "Shrinking," Hamish Linklater for his role in "Widow's Bay," Christopher McDonald for his role in "Hacks" and Connor Storrie for his appearance on "Saturday Night Live."
Reiner, a filmmaker and actor, was found killed with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, in their family home in December 2025. Reiner's son, Nick Reiner, 32, was charged with the murders of his parents.
Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty to murder charges in February.
Rob Reiner's previous two Emmy wins were for his role in "All In The Family," including best supporting actor in a comedy n 1974 and outstanding continuing performance by a supporting actor in a comedy series in 1978.
Along with his eight Emmy nominations, Rob Reiner also scored a Best Picture Oscar nomination for directing "A Few Good Men."
In July 2025, while speaking to People about the 41st anniversary re-release of "This Is Spinal Tap," Rob Reiner credited actress Jamie Lee Curtis for encouraging him to take on the role of Albert in "The Bear."
"It was so much fun to do," he said at the time. "It's fun to act, and I love acting because it's no worries. You just show up and do your work."
