71 killed in Israeli attack on Iran prison, official says

The June 23 strike targeted the infamous Evin Prison in Tehran.

President Donald Trump told ABC News on Tuesday morning he is "not happy" with either Israel or Iran after the opening hours of a nascent ceasefire between the two combatants were marred by reported exchanges. Trump said Iran and Israel both "violated" the ceasefire that he announced late on Monday.

Through last week, the president and his administration continued to push back on an early intelligence report suggesting that the U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities may have only set Tehran's nuclear program back by months.

IRGC issues warning to the United States

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a direct warning to the United States on Monday, saying Iran will act directly against the U.S.

"Trump, in violation of all the international rules, entered the territory of our dear Iran, and attacked three points of our holy soil, and has caused damages," IRGC Maj. Gen. Abdolrahim Mousavi said on Monday.

"Regardless of the amount of the damage incurred from this unwise measure, the mere act of crime and violation won’t be left unanswered, with Allah’s help. This act by Trump was carried out due to despair and to assist its proxy force, the Zionist Regime, especially Netanyahu himself," Mousavi said.

He added, “While we will continue punishment of Netanyahu, with Allah’s permission, powerfully to the point of his misery, we will determinedly act against this mistake by the US, in accordance with the violator’s act.”

Trump lashes out at Russian official who says countries could supply Iran with nuclear weapons

President Donald Trump is lashing out at Russian official Dmitry Medvedev, who claimed countries would be lining up to supply Iran with nuclear weapons following the American strike.

Medvedev, the deputy chairman of Russia's security council, posted on X Sunday night that "a number of countries are ready to directly supply Iran with their own nuclear warheads."

Trump took to his own social media page to call out Medvedev's claims, arguing the word "nuclear" shouldn't be used so casually.

"Did I hear Former President Medvedev, from Russia, casually throwing around the 'N word' (Nuclear!), and saying that he and other Countries would supply Nuclear Warheads to Iran? Did he really say that or, is it just a figment of my imagination? If he did say that, and, if confirmed, please let me know, IMMEDIATELY," Trump posted on Monday, though Medvedev did not say Russia was ready to provide nuclear weapons to Iran.

"The 'N word' should not be treated so casually," he added.

Iran has 'wide range of options' for retaliation after US attack, expert says

Iran has the possibility of retaliating within a "sweet spot" without provoking another round of attacks from the U.S., but overall has a "wide range of options," according to ABC News contributor Steve Hill, an honorary professor in the Department of War Studies at King's College London.

ABC News contributor Steve Hill says there is a path for Iran to retaliate which wouldn’t provoke another round of attacks from the U.S.

"If they go to the extreme and really start attacking American forces and killing American citizens as well as military forces, that almost forces a retaliation from the American side," Hill said. "Complete capitulation after some demonstrative attacks possibly against Israel, that seems more likely."

"But the reality is, there is probably a sweet spot in the middle where the Iranians do enough to justify to their own people that they have retaliated, but not enough to provoke another round of attacks from the Americans so that this remains a one-off," Hill added.
