Trump says damage to Iran's nuclear sites is 'far below ground level'

Trump said the U.S. attacked three nuclear sites in Iran.

The United States struck three nuclear sites in Iran on Saturday, President Donald Trump announced.

B-2 bombers dropped a number of Massive Ordnance Penetrator bombs -- known as "bunker busters" -- during the U.S. mission over Iran, a U.S. official confirmed.

A number of Tomahawk cruise missiles were also fired at targets inside Iran from a U.S. Navy submarine, the official confirmed.

Following the strikes, Trump addressed the nation, calling it a "spectacular military success."

US moving additional aircraft carrier to Middle East amid conflict: Officials

The U.S. is moving an additional aircraft carrier to the Middle East, according to U.S. officials, among other U.S. military developments since the start of the conflict between Israel and Iran.

The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and three destroyers in its strike group are now headed to the Middle East from their current deployment to the Western Pacific, the officials said. The Nimitz is being directed to make its way to the Middle East "without delay," one of the officials said, where it will overlap with the USS Carl Vinson.

In a statement on social media, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that, over the weekend, he "directed the deployment of additional capabilities" to the Middle East. "Protecting U.S. forces is our top priority and these deployments are intended to enhance our defensive posture in the region," he said.

It's possible that additional U.S. Navy ships equipped with missile defense systems will be sent to the Eastern Mediterranean in the coming days and weeks, according to a U.S. official.

The U.S. also moved a large number of midair refueling aircraft to Europe this past weekend as a precautionary move to provide options should the U.S. have to undertake defensive measures, a U.S. official confirmed.

An Iranian state TV news live broadcast was interrupted by Israeli strikes in Tehran on Monday, with smoke and falling debris captured as the news presenter rushed off camera following the sound of a large explosion.

The Israeli defense minister, Israel Katz, confirmed the strikes, which came after the Israel Defense Forces issued a warning to residents in parts of Tehran to evacuate.

"The Iranian regime's propaganda and incitement broadcasting authority was attacked by the IDF after a widespread evacuation of residents in the area," Katz said in a statement. "We have crippled the Iranian dictator everywhere."

It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured in the strikes.

The building was seen on fire following the strike.

The IDF said it targeted the facility based on intelligence that it was "used by military forces to advance operational activity under the cover of civilian assets and infrastructure."
