Israel strikes inactive nuclear reactor, 'dozens' of other targets, IDF says
Forty Israeli Air Force fighter jets targeted "dozens" of military targets overnight in Iran, including an inactive nuclear reactor in the area of Arak, the Israel Defense Forces said Thursday.
The IDF said it struck the Arak heavy water reactor overnight after earlier issuing an evacuation order for the area surrounding the site.

"Construction of the reactor began in 1997 but was not completed due to international community intervention," the IDF said.
The air force said the strike hit the "structure that seals the reactor, which is a main component in the production of plutonium, thus preventing its ability to be used again for the production of nuclear weapons."
A "nuclear weapons development" site in the area of Natanz and other military production sites were also targeted, Israel said. Israel alleged that the Natanz site included "components and specialised equipment used to advance nuclear weapons development."
