Trump says damage to Iran's nuclear sites is 'far below ground level'

Trump said the U.S. attacked three nuclear sites in Iran.

The United States struck three nuclear sites in Iran on Saturday, President Donald Trump announced.

B-2 bombers dropped a number of Massive Ordnance Penetrator bombs -- known as "bunker busters" -- during the U.S. mission over Iran, a U.S. official confirmed.

A number of Tomahawk cruise missiles were also fired at targets inside Iran from a U.S. Navy submarine, the official confirmed.

Following the strikes, Trump addressed the nation, calling it a "spectacular military success."

'Ayatollah is the head of the snake,' Israeli president tells ABC News

Israeli President Isaac Herzog told ABC News that Israel can win the war against Iran without the U.S., but said that removing Iran's nuclear threat serves the "free world," including the U.S.

Asked what he would say to President Donald Trump, Herzog said, "I trust his judgement and I'm sure he'll make the right decision."

Herzog said it has only been a week since the war began and suggested the threat of Iran will not go away "instantaneously."

"Victory looks like removing the Iranian nuclear threat," Herzog said.

"The ayatollah is the head of the snake. He's been leading this operation. He's been speaking about eliminating my nation, my people, my family for decades. So clearly, he is a major, major objective of dealing with. But, I cannot say that the ayatollah is a part of our war objectives," Herzog told ABC News.

Russia warns that US involvement in Iran would be 'extremely dangerous step'

Russia warned that "military intervention" by the United States in Iran "would be an extremely dangerous step with truly unpredictable negative consequences," Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said in a statement Thursday.

She also addressed Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, singling out facilities where Russian specialists work.

"Russia calls on the Israeli leadership to immediately stop raids on nuclear facilities and sites that are under guarantees and are subject to IAEA verification activities," Zakharova said. "We are particularly concerned about the safety of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, which involves Russian specialists," Zakharova added.

"Today, the main thing is to prevent further escalation of violence, achieve a ceasefire and restore peace, which, in turn, will create the conditions for a return to negotiations. We are ready to contribute to this in every way and are making political and diplomatic efforts in this direction," Zakharova said.
