Trump says damage to Iran's nuclear sites is 'far below ground level'

Over the next 10 to 14 days, there will likely be two aircraft carriers in the Middle East and a third aircraft carrier will be operating in the Mediterranean Sea, providing the Trump administration with additional military options to defend U.S. military interests and personnel in the region.

The Nimitz strike group -- a carrier and three destroyers -- will arrive in the Middle East this weekend, according to two U.S. officials. It will be joining the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson which has been operating in the southern Arabian Sea near Yemen along with a cruiser and three destroyers.

The USS Gerald R Ford carrier strike group will be leaving Norfolk early next week, according to two U.S officials. The carrier’s deployment was previously scheduled and it was always slated to initially deploy to the U.S. European Command area of operations which means it will operate in the Mediterranean Sea, according to the officials. It will likely take about 10 days for the Ford to cross the Atlantic and then be available for operations in the Mediterranean, according to one of the officials.

Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said the militia will "act as we see fit," in its first comments since Israel launched an attack on Iran.

"We are not neutral between Iran's legitimate rights and the falsehood of America and its aggression, along with the cancerous tumor 'Israel' and the arrogant powers. We stand with Iran," he said.

The Iranian mission to the United Nations has alleged Israel committed a war crime by striking nuclear facilities, Iran said in a letter to the Security Council.

"Israel launched a direct military strike against the Arak Heavy Water Research Reactor, a facility that is under the full monitoring and verification of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015) and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action," Iran's mission said in the letter.

"This reprehensible act constitutes the third such attack in recent days. On 13 June 2025, Israel carried out an armed attack against the Uranium Conversion Facility and the Fuel Plate Fabrication Plant, followed by another aggression on 18 June 2025 targeting centrifuge production sites in Tehran and Karaj," Iran's mission said.

Iran said the "repeated acts of aggression are flagrant violations" of the UN charter, international law, the Statute of the Agency, IAEA resolutions and Security Council resolutions.

"They also represent an unprecedented and dangerous assault on the integrity of the global nuclear non-proliferation regime and the system of multilateral safeguards administered by the IAEA," Iran's mission said.

At least 23 people have been killed and over 600 injured in Israel from Iranian strikes on the country since Israel's operation against Iran began on June 13, Israeli Emergency Services spokesperson Zaki Heller said in a release Thursday.
