Trump says damage to Iran's nuclear sites is 'far below ground level'

Trump said the U.S. attacked three nuclear sites in Iran.

The United States struck three nuclear sites in Iran on Saturday, President Donald Trump announced.

B-2 bombers dropped a number of Massive Ordnance Penetrator bombs -- known as "bunker busters" -- during the U.S. mission over Iran, a U.S. official confirmed.

A number of Tomahawk cruise missiles were also fired at targets inside Iran from a U.S. Navy submarine, the official confirmed.

Following the strikes, Trump addressed the nation, calling it a "spectacular military success."

Johnson, Thune briefed ahead of strikes on Iran: Sources

House Speaker Mike Johnson was briefed ahead of the U.S. strikes on Iran's nuclear sites, a source familiar with the briefing told ABC News.

Johnson was supposed to be in Israel on Sunday to address the Knesset, but the trip was scrapped because of the ongoing conflict.

The speaker also put out a statement endorsing the strikes, calling it a "decisive" action that prevents terrorism.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune was also briefed ahead of the U.S. strikes on Iran, two sources familiar with the conversation told ABC News.

"The regime in Iran, which has committed itself to bringing ‘death to America’ and wiping Israel off the map, has rejected all diplomatic pathways to peace. The mullahs’ misguided pursuit of nuclear weapons must be stopped," Thune said in a statement.

NYPD deploying more resources to sensitive locations

The NYPD announced that "out of an abundance of caution," it was sending more resources, "to religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites across NYC and coordinating with our federal partners."

Rubio was outside West Wing when Trump announced the attack

Secretary of State and National Security Adviser Marco Rubio was seen on the phone outside of the West Wing on West Executive Drive as the president's social media post on the attacks went live.

Moments later, his team including senior director for counterterrorism Sebastian Gorka, Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair and others, were seen gathered outside.
