Kenyatta looks to shake up Pennsylvania Dem Senate race
The leading candidates in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary race for Senate include Lt. Gov John Fetterman, Rep. Conor Lamb and state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, a local surrogate for President Joe Biden throughout the 2020 general election.
Kenyatta rose to the national stage in the summer of 2020 as a Democratic National Convention keynote speaker when the party identified him as part of a group of "diverse voices from the next generation of party leaders." In the same year, a video went viral of Kenyatta delivering a passionate floor speech in Pennsylvania defending low-wage workers and highlighting the difficulties they faced amid the pandemic.

The 30-year-old state representative already broke barriers across his home state as the only gay Black man elected to the Pennsylvania legislature and has spoken about his experience with ABC News in the past, saying his differences only give him more will power.
Lamb and Fetterman, both from Allegheny County, are fighting for the same Western Pennsylvania bloc of voters. Kenyatta, who's struggled with fundraising, comes from the most populous and critically important Philadelphia area.
