The amendment exempts imports valued at less than $800 from Canada and Mexico.
President Donald Trump’s efforts to reshape the federal government to his liking suffered a loss in court when a federal judge blocked his administration from firing the head of a federal watchdog agency without cause, likely triggering a lengthy appeal that could end at the Supreme Court.
U.S. District Justice Amy Berman Jackson determined the move was unlawful and issued a permanent injunction that reinstated special counsel Hampton Dellinger to his position.
Meanwhile, the Social Security Administration said it will cut 7,000 jobs and six of its 10 regional centers as part of the president’s downsizing of the federal workforce.
And Trump’s physician announced the president will have his annual physical next month, days after reporters raised questions about a bruise they saw on the back of his hand.
After previously saying it was unrealistic for Ukraine to get its pre-war borders back in a peace deal, Trump said he will "try" to return land seized by Russia.
"Well, they fought long and hard on the land ... We're going to certainly try and get as much as we can back. But on the NATO -- it's just that, that's not going to happen," Trump said.
Trump was asked by a reporter about recent comments from Blackwater CEO Erik Prince who called on privatizing deportations.
"I don't think it's necessary. Our people are doing a phenomenal job. I wouldn't be opposed to it necessarily," Trump said.
"I mean, the level of effectiveness has been incredible," he added.
United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer said his country will be a leading country in stepping up to support Ukraine post-war. Sitting beside him, Trump was asked if the U.S. would back up Britain if their peacekeeping forces in Ukraine were attacked by Russia after the war.
"You know, I've always found about the British, they don't need much help. They can take care of themselves very well," Trump said.
Asked repeatedly about the U.S. role in Ukraine's security after the war, Trump sidestepped on any guarantees but said the U.S. will be "working" there.
"We are a backstop because we'll be over there. We'll be working in the country," he said, appearing to be referencing potential economic development that will result from a U.S. deal for access to Ukraine's mineral resources.
