Trump admin live updates: Trump, Schumer trade barbs over Senate nominations

A poll from the Washington Post published on Tuesday found that a majority of Americans (86%) support releasing all files related to deceased financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, as President Trump and the administration continue to face blowback over the issue. Smaller majorities of Americans think the files may contain embarrassing information on Trump, Democrats and billionaires.

Overall, 58% of respondents said they disapprove of the way Trump is handling issues related to the Epstein files, while 16% approve and 26% said they had no opinion.

Among "self-described MAGA Republicans" polled by the Washington Post, 43% of them said they approve of Trump's handling of the files, with 39% having no opinion and 17% disapproving. The administration has faced significant backlash from high-profile members of the MAGA base over the handling of the Epstein matter.

President Trump wrote on his conservative social media platform that he has been briefed on the mass shooting in Midtown Manhattan, calling the area "a place that I know and love."

"I trust our Law Enforcement Agencies to get to the bottom of why this crazed lunatic committed such a senseless act of violence," Trump wrote. "My heart is with the families of the four people who were killed, including the NYPD Officer, who made the ultimate sacrifice. God Bless the New York Police Department, and God Bless New York!"

Four people were killed and a fifth was injured in a shooting at a Manhattan office building on Monday night.

President Donald Trump, as he played golf at the opening of his new course in Aberdeen, Scotland, was asked about a ceasefire in the Middle East, to which he responded with "going to get straightened out."

Trump was also asked if he would be meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump broke with Netanyahu after the prime minister's claim that there was "no starvation" in Gaza, with Trump saying on Monday "those children look very hungry" and that there's "real starvation."

"We're working together, we're gonna try to get things straighten out for the world," the president said.

Trump also told the crowd that he would be on his way back to Washington later Tuesday to "put out fires all over the world."

With a pair of golden scissors and a bag pipe escort, President Donald Trump cut the ribbon for Trump International Links Aberdeen in Scotland on Tuesday.

"We have a world that's had some conflict, but we've ironed out a lot of it. We're going to have a great and peaceful world. And on a much smaller scale, this will be a tremendously successful place, a place where people can come and enjoy life," he said.

Trump, who usually publicly criticizes reporters, praised them this morning as several reporters, including the official White House pool, were on the sidelines of the family event. "They're not fake news today. They're wonderful news," Trump said.

The president's son, Eric Trump, gave a few remarks marking the new golf course and recognizing the legacy of his father. Eric Trump said the course started off as a passion project for his father and that when he went off to get involved in politics, he and the rest of their family continued the president's legacy.

"We wanted this to be the greatest 36 holes anywhere on Earth. And there's no question, there's no question that that's been achieved," he said.
