WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Gunnar Smith threw three touchdown passes, Jamell James added three more on the ground and Fordham picked up its first win with a 52-27 victory over William & Mary on Saturday.
The Rams (1-3, 1-1 Patriot League) took off to a 21-0 lead on Smith TD passes to KJ Reed and John Morris sandwiched around a 5-yard TD run by James. James' 12-yard run made it 38-14 late in the third quarter and Yohan-Li Louis added a 57-yard TD early in the fourth.
Louis finished with 203 yards on 15 carries — the first Rams player to go over 200 yards rushing since Julius Loughridge had 211 and three TDs against Holy Cross in 2023, which was also the last time a Ram player rushed for three scores. James ran for 163 yards on 17 carries. Smith threw for 141 yards.
The 52 points were the most scored by Fordham since it put up 52 against Colgate in 2022.
Winston Watkins threw for 286 yards and two touchdowns for the Tribe (2-2, 1-2), ranked No. 21 in the Stats Perform poll. Andrew King added 122 yards on the ground with a score.
Fordham: Home against Stony Brook.
William & Mary: At Duke next Saturday.
