Tensions are flaring in Minneapolis after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer fatally shot a 37-year-old woman on Wednesday.

The Department of Homeland Security has alleged that the victim, Renee Good, was attempting to run over law enforcement officers when an ICE officer fatally shot her Wednesday morning -- a claim that local officials have disputed.

Bondi warns protesters not to cross 'red line'

Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a warning to those protesting in Minneapolis -- don't cross a "red line" by committing violence.

"Peacefully protesting is a sacred American right protected by the First Amendment. Obstructing, impeding, or attacking federal law enforcement is a federal crime. So is damaging federal property," she wrote on X. "If you cross that red line, you will be arrested and prosecuted. Do not test our resolve."

'Leave Minnesota alone': Walz to Trump administration

During his press briefing, Gov. Tim Walz called on the Trump administration to "leave Minnesota alone" in the wake of the deadly ICE shooting.

To President Donald Trump, he said he would ask him to "deescalate in the moment," allow Minnesotans to grieve and "allow this investigation to be played out by the rule of law."

He said he believes the nation may be looking to Minnesota to "hold the line on democracy, to hold the line on decency, to hold the line on accountability."

"Minnesotans, again, don't give them the unrest that they want. Don't give in to allowing them to bring more folks in here. Don't allow them to expand this somewhere else," Walz said in closing. "Rise up. Wrap your arms around your neighbors. Peacefully express your First Amendment, your constitutional rights, and let's start healing."

Minnesota commissioner says 'extremely difficult, if not impossible' to file state charges without FBI help

Minnesota Department of Public Safety Commissioner Bob Jacobson said it would be "extremely difficult, if not impossible" to file state charges in the deadly shooting without cooperation from the FBI, which state officials said is now solely leading the investigation into the incident.

"They do have all the evidence in the original investigative notes and reports. We have none of that. They have shared none of that with us," Jacobson said during Thursday's press briefing. "We would welcome the opportunity to jump back in to do that investigation, use our high-quality investigators from the [state's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension] to be able to do that with them, to find the answers that the public deserves."

Without that information, "we would be at a loss to be able to initiate and conduct a thorough investigation," he said.

Jacobson said he did not want to jump to any conclusions on fault in the shooting.

"What I will say, though, is that unless we do that thorough investigation, unless we have access to all of that evidence, unless we have access to the agents that were involved in that, to any witnesses, without any of that, we would not be able to put together a quality investigation for any prosecutor to be able to make a determination as to whether or not someone should be charged with a crime," he said.
