Zoo sets debut date for giant pandas Ping Ping and Fu Shuang
The two giant pandas arrived in Atlanta in September.
Giant pandas Ping Ping and Fu Shuang will make their debut to the public next month.
Zoo Atlanta announced Tuesday that the two giant pandas will be introduced Nov. 6 in the zoo's new Arthur M. Blank Panda Grove, which also opens on the same day.
"We are overjoyed to introduce Ping Ping and Fu Shuang and the all-new Arthur M. Blank Panda Grove to our community, City of Atlanta, State of Georgia, and beyond on November 6," Zoo Atlanta President and CEO Raymond B. King said in a statement. "Members and guests who recall the original giant panda habitat will know immediately upon entry that they are in for an entirely new experience."
Ping Ping, a male giant panda, and Fu Shuang, a female giant panda, were born six years ago in 2020 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China.
The two giant pandas are on loan from China and traveled from their home country to Atlanta in September aboard a FedEx "Panda Express" Boeing 777, according to Zoo Atlanta.
Their stay in the U.S. is part of a giant panda conservation agreement between Zoo Atlanta and the China Wildlife Conservation Association. The giant pandas' arrival and debut, after a routine quarantine period, also marks a continued symbol of friendship between the U.S. and China.
