17-year-old shot dead near his high school, no arrests: Police

A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed down the street from his high school in Houston on Friday morning, authorities said.

The victim was a senior at Westbury High School, Houston police said at a news conference.

All other students and staff are safe, police said.

No arrests have been made, police said, adding, "We're working diligently to make sure we get someone in custody as soon as possible."

The victim’s family is “devastated,” police said.

“A grandmother shouldn’t be on the side of the street here, grieving for her child, for her grandchild. The mom is beside herself,” police said.
