Wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator allegedly shot by son at home, police say
Eric Bieniemy rejoined the Chiefs this year as the team's offensive coordinator.
The wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was allegedly shot by her son at the couple's home in Virginia on Sunday night, according to police.
Mia Bieniemy, 57, is in stable condition following the shooting, Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman told ABC affiliate station WJLA-TV Monday.
Chapman said the couple's son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, is in custody.
The Loudon County Sheriff's Office said the 27-year-old was arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and Discharge of a Firearm Inside of a Dwelling. He was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center where he was held without bond.
"Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy and his family. Thoughts and prayers are with them. I can't get into details on it, but things happen sometimes, and Eric will work through it," Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Monday.
